Michelle’s Screening Rooms

It’s not all cocktails and parties at Pure, our Event Manager Michelle is giving us an insight into another of our specialities…

When people hear the word screening room they think of a night out at the cinema munching popcorn, not so much in the events world.

Many of our clients often look at using screening rooms as an alternative to the usual conference for presentations, media clients such as Channel 4 use them often to launch new programmes and series.  There are many different styles & capacities, locations & options – we think of everything from whether you need reception space and interview rooms to (most importantly) the format. Who knew there was so many ranging from DCP to HDCAM and even HDCAM SR!

After working on screenings for over 5 years it had become second nature to me and as there are only a select amount of quality screening rooms within central London once a new one opens its doors it becomes inundated with requests to have the first screening there! As always Pure have the low down and here’s my top 3 including a brand new one not event open yet.

Ham Yard Hotel –W1

If you’re looking for something on the quirky side for large capacities and centrally located I would recommend Ham Yard Hotel in the heart of Soho. Alongside it’s ability to seat 196 people is a state of the art theatre with green room located at the back of the space. The electric blue walls with tangerine orange leather seats and bright fuchsia pink silk curtains framing the stage make it a more lively screening space. For reception they offer the adjoining Dive Bar which was named after  the 3 ft neon lit lady diver, which hangs on one of the walls.

The Mayfair Hotel – W1

For a more luxurious screening room, located in the Mayfair hotel just by Green Park.  With capacity of up to 201 guests with a stage at the front this works well for day or evening screenings.. For breakout pre and post screening the adjacent Salon, Crystal Room and Danziger Suites work well for this.

The Curtain- EC2A

Opening in May, the long awaited Curtain hotel located in trendy Shoreditch will have a screening room for 40 seated.  Featuring a cinema-grade projector, 200” fixed screen, cutting edge 7.2 surround sound system and with its own cocktail bar, each event can be self-contained. This is an ideal space for smaller more casual screenings and can be great for interview space.
